Dear Friends,

Hello from the Portage County Fair–Amherst. We are a non-profit 4H and FFA youth fair. We support the youth of Portage County through special projects, animals they raise and show, and through the crops they learn about, while growing and showing them. We provide them a place to show and display their work for everyone to see. We do this by awarding them paid premiums and trophies, which is the largest part of our budget. $20,000 dollars is paid out every year for 4H-FFA programs.

The fair is a 4 day event. There are carnival rides and games all 4 days. We have live bands/music on all nights; we have a truck and tractor pull on Thursday night and Friday night. On Saturday, we have a 4H/FFA cake auction, and Demolition Derby. On Sunday, which is free admission family day, we have a pancake breakfast, Bingo, Cornhole tournament, FFA-4H animal market sale, little pedal tractor races, a volleyball tournament, cash raffle, rides, games, and music.

The Portage County Fair–Amherst provides the venue for many other non-profit organizations to raise money. These include the VFW, Conservation Club, Holstein Association, 4H leaders, FFA, Scouts, and Girls softball team. These groups supply the majority of the famous “fair food”. We also offer the grounds to the Tomorrow River Lions/Lions to hold fundraising events, like the 4th of July celebration, and chicken feed. Many other organizations hold their events at the Portage County Fairgrounds, like the Little Britches Rodeo.

Our workers are volunteers. This includes our fair board members that work throughout the year and the many people that prepare the grounds and work the various jobs during and after the fair.
